"For example, I dealt with a small matter in the warehouse that was delaying the overall process of dispatching pallet shipments. I went to pick and I needed an empty pallet, I asked in the warehouse where I could find it and found out that I had to go to the manager or another worker in the warehouse first to bring it to me. The process of walking for pallets was repeated frequently throughout the day and was time consuming and inefficient. We made a completely simple solution there. I calculated how many empty pallets are needed per day and per hour. I put a limited number of pallets on the location, created a minimum quantity line on the rack, and installed a flashing beacon on the rack. When the storekeeper comes, takes the pallet and drops below the level of the line, the beacon lights up. Someone in the warehouse will notice this and bring the number of pallets to the maximum, and the beacon will go out again. It's really a small thing, but the annual savings in that operation has been incredible."
